Journalist reveals Alderweireld fee is much lower than previously reported

Tottenham Hotspur confirmed today that Toby Alderweireld had left the club, transferring to Al-Duhail SC in Qatar, bringing an end to six years in North London.

Alderweireld signed a new contract with Spurs back in 2019 which was meant to run until 2023, meaning he had two years left on his deal.

It was reported by multiple sources that the 32-year-old was moving to Qatar for a fee of around £13m (Standard and Daily Mail).

However, PA Sport journalist, Jonathan Veal has now reported that he has heard the figure is actually closer to €5m which is around £4.3m.

This would come as a disappointment to many Spurs fans who were expecting to get almost three times that fee for the Belgian this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion:

I was extremely happy with Tottenham getting £13m for Toby this summer, and that fact would have remained for anything above the £10m mark. However, getting under £5m for him seems extremely low. At that point, I would have preferred to sell Sanchez and Dier, keeping the experience of Alderweireld next season.
