Journalist reveals Arsenal are ready to challenge Spurs for 22-year-old

Journalist Rudy Galetti has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur face competition from their North London rivals for the signature of Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez.

Gimenez has been quite prolific for Feyenoord over the last two seasons and unsurprisingly, several clubs around Europe are thought to be eyeing a summer move for the Mexican.

Just a couple of days ago, the print edition of Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) suggested that Tottenham may face competition from Italian sides for the centre-forward.

The report said that while Spurs are continuing to circle the 22-year-old, the striker had also emerged as a target for AC Milan while Napoli are now ready to take some concrete steps to sign him.

Arsenal enter the race for Santiago Gimenez

Galetti has now taken to social media to reveal that Spurs have to also contend with competition from closer to home, with the Gunners also said to be keen on Gimenez.

He reveals that Mikel Arteta’s men have been watching the striker for a long time and that they have added him to their summer shopping list.

The journalist further adds that sources close to Gimenez have confirmed that several clubs have already approached the player’s entourage over a summer deal.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am not entirely sold on the idea of signing Gimenez, given how attacking imports from the Eredivisie have struggled in the Premier League over recent seasons. Rather than shelling out £40m-£45m on the Mexican, I would rather see Spurs spend £10m-£15m more to land Ivan Toney.
