Transfer market expert Duncan Castles has revealed what Bayern Munich’s stance is on selling Mathys Tel permanently and has given some interesting insight into how the forward’s loan move to Tottenham came about in January.

Tottenham want to sign Mathys Tel permanently
Tottenham have a £45m option to buy Tel permanently in the summer, and they have not hidden the fact that they are planning to exercise it.
Ange Postecoglou has publicly admitted that he has not brought the 19-year-old to the club for just a few months, but reports indicate that the forward will have to give a green light for the option to buy to become active.
It has emerged over recent days that Postecoglou made it clear to Tel before his arrival at Spurs that he views this as a long-term deal. The Australian is said to be confident that the player will agree to a permanent switch (GiveMeSport).

Bayern Munich’s stance on selling Mathys Tel
Duncan Castles has said that Bayern would be happy to cash in on Tel permanently, explaining that they were keen to do so during the January window.
However, it was at the player’s insistence that the Bundesliga club settled for a loan with an option to buy, with the pacy attacker not wanting to make a decision on his future until the summer.
Castles said on The Transfers Podcast: “Then the other interesting thing they did was Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich and this is an interesting move in a number of ways because Manchester United inquired about the player.
“The guidance I have from Manchester United is that the loan fee that Bayern Munich were asking was so high that they didn’t take that to the point of discussing what an option to buy would be.
“Tel initially said no to Tottenham. If you buy Ange Postecoglou’s explanation of what happened, it was because he thought very carefully about the move and was very ambitious and wanted to know exactly it was the right club for him and he has no doubts that Tel wanted to be there.
“What I’m hearing from the Bayern end is that they actually wanted to sell the player. They wanted to put an obligation to buy clause in the deal of 60 million euros.
“But in the end, it became an option to buy because the player insisted that he wanted the decision at the end of the season as to whether Tottenham was the right place for him to be.”

Spurs will have to have a strong end to the season to convince Tel
Tel would have to be convinced that he can fulfil his ambitions at N17 to agree to a move, and that would require Postecoglou’s men to have a strong end to the season.
As things stand, there is no guarantee that the Australian coach will even be at the club until the end of the campaign, and should he be sacked, that might affect the Bayern loanee’s decision.
