Journalist reveals ‘demoralising’ thing he noticed during Tottenham training session

Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge has admitted that he was surprised at how Harry Winks, Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and Sergio Reguilon are being treated at the Tottenham training ground.

Ndombele, Lo Celso, Winks and Reguilon have been frozen out of first-team training by Antonio Conte since the squad returned for pre-season this summer. All four players are expected to leave the club before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

Over recent days, reports have indicated that Villarreal are targeting loan moves for both Lo Celso and Ndombele (Fabrizio Romano), while Reguilon is rumoured to be a target for Sevilla (The Athletic) and Barcelona (AS).

Winks, meanwhile, has been linked with a whole host of Premier League clubs (Daily Mail) and it also emerged this week that the midfielder is on Valencia’s radar (AS).

Bridge revealed that when he visited Hotspur Way last week, all four of the aforementioned players were watching first-team training from a distance and then worked separately with the finesses coaches when the session was over.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “I was at the training ground last Thursday and the first-team were training, and you see them four on the edge of the pitch on the other side watching, and then they go and run with one of the fitness coaches.

“I don’t care how much money they’re on, it’s demoralising, I was demoralised for them, it was quite a hard watch, especially Winks, who’s been there from day one.”

I suspect Lo Celso and Winks would have both informed Conte that they wish to leave the club this summer while the Spurs boss would have likely ruled last season that Ndombele does not have the physical stamina to cope with his style of play.

However, I have been surprised that Reguilon has also been frozen out along with the other three players. Even if the Spaniard was not in Conte’s plans, I thought he would be involved in pre-season, much like Emerson and Tanganga.

I guess Conte and his coaching staff are trying to be efficient and do not want to waste time working with players who are guaranteed to leave this summer.
