Journalist reveals fans are booing Spurs target after his contract decision

Italian football journalist Daniele Verri has revealed that rumoured Tottenham target Dusan Vlahovic has been booed by the Fiorentina fans after he refused to sign a new contract.

Antonio Conte has reportedly asked Tottenham to snap up Vlahovic when the transfer window reopens in January.

Gianluca Di Marzio told TuttoMercatoWeb this week that Fiorentina would like to cash in on the 21-year-old when the transfer market reopens in January as the Serie A club do not expect the striker to renew his contract.

He claimed that the Viola hierarchy suspect Vlahovic already has an agreement with ‘another team’ over a summer transfer.

According to Firenze Viola, Tottenham would be prepared to put €70m (£59.1m) on the table for the centre-forward in January.

Verri has now revealed that Vlahovic’s stance over his future has made him an unpopular man at the Artemio Franchi Stadium but he pointed out that the striker’s performances have not been affected due to the jeering from the fans.

The journalist told BBC Sport: “He [Vlahovic] moves a lot but he is a striker who shows a lot of presence in the penalty area.

“He can push defenders out of the way, hold up the ball and he can pull two defenders along with him and still score. And he is very young. He has nowhere near yet touched his full potential.”

“He has been under pressure from fans, who have been booing him, and the club itself since it emerged that he would not extend his contract. But he is still scoring goals.

“He is responding on the pitch. That, to me, shows a mental strength you need to be a top professional player.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Vlahovic certainly does not appear to be lacking in confidence and one can argue that players need to have a bit of arrogance if they are to reach the very top. The fact that the 21-year-old is being booed by Fiorentina fans only makes the striker more likely to leave.
