Journalist reveals fee Spurs and Middlesbrough now discussing for Djed Spence

Sky Sports journalist, Lyall Thomas, has now reported that Tottenham and Middlesbrough are discussing an initial fee of £12.5m for Djed Spence, which could rise to around £20m if potential add-ons are met.

This comes minutes after The Athletic’s David Ornstein claimed Spurs were on the verge of a total agreement with Boro over the transfer of the right-wing-back.

There was apparently a breakthrough between Daniel Levy, Middlesbrough’s Steve Gibson, and Spence’s player representative, Scott Smith, meaning a medical could be expected in the next 48 hours if all goes to plan.

Spence has long been named as Tottenham’s top right-wing-back target this summer (Evening Standard), with Alasdair Gold revealing on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham podcast that all three camps were confident a deal would eventually be reached.

It appears the time may finally be approaching for Tottenham to get their man, who would be the Lilywhites’ sixth signing of the summer transfer window.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Finally! We all knew it would happen, but with Tottenham you never like to get your hopes up until it’s a done deal. With so many reporting it in the last ten minutes, it looks as though Spurs will finally get that injection of direct attacking on the right they desperately need.
