Journalist reveals first-team training update on Harry Kane and Bryan Gil

The Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick has revealed that Harry Kane is set to have his Day 5 PCR today ahead of a potential return to group training on Friday.

Kane has rejected claims he failed to show up to training last week, insisting he was hurt by comments about his lack of professionalism.

The striker did report back to Hotspur Way on Saturday where he has been self-isolating at The Lodge and met with new boss Nuno Espirito Santo for the first time on Monday.

Nuno has claimed the England captian will be available for selection for Tottenham’s season opener against Manchester City on Sunday.

However, with City reportedly confident they will get the 28-year-old before the transfer window closes, it remains to be seen whether the striker will have any part to play in the match.

Kilpatrick has revealed that Kane will join his teammates in training on Friday should the Day 5 PCR test come back negative.

The journalist also confirmed that Bryan Gil trained with his new teammates for the first time on Wednesday.

Irrespective of whether Kane stays at Spurs or ends up going to City, the fact that he will not have trained with the group until Friday pretty much rules out the prospect of the striker starting the game on Sunday.

It will be interesting to see whether the 28-year-old is named on the bench as that might be an indication as to how his conversation with Nuno went.
