Journalist reveals how Arsenal deal has made potential Spurs signing more difficult

Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano has revealed on the Here We Go podcast (as relayed by TBR Football) that Tottenham Hotspur will not be signing Real Madrid centre-back Eder Militao before the transfer window closes.

Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen on bolstering his options in central defence and Militao is one of the players who has been linked with a move to the North London club this month.

AS previously claimed that Mourinho is a fan of the Real Madrid defender, while Defensa Central suggested that the La Liga giants could allow the former Porto man to join Spurs on loan until the end of the season.

Sport Bild also mentioned Tottenham as potential suitors for Militao while reporting on Bayern Munich’s interest in the 23-year-old.

However, Romano has now claimed that Los Blancos are not willing to let the central defender leave this month.

He reported that the Spanish club are short of numbers in their squad, with Martin Odegaard’s move to Arsenal making things even more difficult.

With just a couple of days left until the transfer window closes, it seems extremely unlikely that we are going to make any signings. However, I expect a major overhaul at centre-back during the summer, with Alderweireld and Sanchez potentially leaving and two new central defenders being brought in.
