Journalist reveals how Conte feels about Spurs-linked James Maddison

CBS journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that even though Tottenham have not made advances to sign James Maddison, Antonio Conte likes the Leicester City star ‘a lot’.

Reports over recent weeks have indicated that Spurs are on the lookout for a creative midfielder this summer (The Evening Standard), with Maddison said to be on the names on the north London club’s radar (GiveMeSport).

The 25-year-old has just two years left to run on his contract at the King Power Stadium (Transfermarkt), and there has been plenty of speculation over his future recently.

Dharmesh Sheth reported this week that Brendan Rodgers’ men value the attacking midfielder at around £60m this summer, despite his contract situation.

Jacobs believes Leicester might cash in on Maddison if a suitable offer arrives for the former Norwich City man before the transfer window closes.

When asked about Tottenham’s interest in the 25-year-old, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “Maddison is an interesting one because if Leicester are forced to sell, he might be the one allowed to leave.

“Tottenham at the moment are focused on outgoings for now, so there’s nothing to suggest that Maddison to Tottenham is imminent or advanced, but it’s absolutely true that Conte likes the player a lot, so let’s see where that one develops between now and the end of the window.”

As things stand, it appears as if Paratici and Conte view Zaniolo as a bigger priority than Maddison. That suggests to me that Conte does not really plan on shifting to a 3-5-2 and would rather have more options off the bench in his tried and tested 3-4-3.
