Journalist reveals how far Tottenham ran yesterday – Even more than Leeds

Charlie Eccleshare has revealed on social media that the Tottenham players collectively covered more distance than the Leeds players in their 2-1 win on Sunday.

Under Marcelo Bielsa, Leeds have been known for their high-energy, high-pressing style of play and that was certainly evident in the first half at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as the away side pushed Spurs back and dominated proceedings.

However, Conte’s men themselves decided to press high up the pitch after the interval and forced mistakes out of Leeds.

Spurs eventually came out worthy winners but Conte admitted in his post-match press conference that he was worried about whether his players would be able to match Leeds’ intensity.

The Tottenham boss praised the passion and energy that his players showed in the second half after he tweaked the tactical set-up at half-time.

According to Eccleshare, Spurs did not just match Leeds’ energy and intensity but actually outdid their opponents.

The journalist revealed that Conte’s men collectively covered 4 kilometres more than their opponents on Sunday. Tottenham ran 112km and Leeds covered 108km.

Spurs Web Opinion

Our distance covered was quite appalling under Nuno this season and so the fact that we have managed to outrun one of the fittest sides in the league is certainly promising.

It cannot simply be put down to Conte’s focus on fitness because the Italian has not had enough time at the helm to have a major impact on players’ physical conditions.

It has more to do with the players’ attitudes and Conte’s persistence in pushing them on from the sidelines. As the players get fitter over the next few months, one can expect us to regularly outwork our opponents.
