Journalist Dean Jones has said that Tottenham Hotspur have learned that Jean-Clair Todibo is keen on the idea of moving to the North London club in January.
It was first reported by Fabrizio Romano (on his YouTube channel) a week and a half ago that Spurs had made advances over a move for the Frenchman.
Romano said that the Lilywhites want to complete a deal for the centre-back swiftly and do not want the negotiations to drag on throughout the January window.
However, for the past few days, some reliable journalists have downplayed Spurs’ chances of winning the race for the Nice star.
This includes Football.London’s Alasdair Gold, who said a couple of days ago that the Ligue 1 side might put off the centre-back’s sale until the end of the season as they anticipate a major bidding war for the player next summer.
Todibo open to Spurs switch – Maybe not in January
Jones has now explained that Tottenham sense an opportunity as they have heard from the France international that he is interested in making the switch to N17.
The journalist told Ranks FC: “Tottenham sense there might be an opportunity here, because what I understand, the initial contact around this was with people on Todibo’s side of things rather than with Nice. And they believe that Todibo is interested in this transfer.
“I just struggle to believe that it will be pushed through fast enough that Tottenham are happy, because Tottenham want a centre-half to arrive by mid-January ideally.
“They really don’t want this being dragged out across the whole month. They want to know very quickly whether they can get Todibo.”
Spurs Web Opinion
The complicated part of the transfer is evidently going to be agreeing a fee with Nice rather than getting the green light from the player’s side.
Tottneham’s Todibo pursuit very much remains up in the air and it remains to be seen if an offer of around £40m would be enough to persuade the Ligue 1 club to sell the centre-back.
