Journalist reveals how much Spurs are ready to spend on a ‘luxury signing’

Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are looking to make a ‘luxury signing’ before the transfer window closes.

Spurs have already addressed most of the key areas they needed to this summer, having brought in Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Clement Lenglet and Djed Spence through the door.

The Evening Standard reported last month that while Tottenham are now focussing on selling players who are surplus to requirements to Antonio Conte, the North London club are also on the lookout for a creative midfielder and a centre-back.

Leicester City’s James Maddison,(GiveMeSport), AS Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo (TuttoSport), Lyon’s Lucas Paqueta (L’Equipe) and Juventus’ Weston McKennie (90min) have all been mooted as potential targets for the Lilywhites this summer.

Jones believes that Conte’s men are willing to spend around £60m on a luxury signing and opined that it would have to be a player who would improve their starting eleven.

The journalist told ThisIsFutbol: “It’s luxury signings that they’re (Tottenham) now looking at.

“Having £60m for a luxury signing is a lot of money, and is going to be somebody that’s going to expect to be part of your side, week in week out.”

At this point, it seems like the ‘luxury signing’ that Tottenham are after is Zaniolo. I believe that Conte and Paratici view the opportunity to land the 23-year-old as being too good to turn down. That would also perhaps explain why Conte has experimented with Lucas at right-wing-back during pre-season.
