Journalist reveals how much Spurs might have to pay for Ivan Toney this summer

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has suggested that Brentford will demand a whopping £100m for Ivan Toney this summer but suggested that they might have to settle for a considerably lower fee.

Toney will enter the final year of his contract at the Gtech Community Stadium this summer and unsurprisingly, the striker is expected to be one of the most hotly contested signings of the summer transfer window.

He is one of just a handful of number nines in world football who guaranteed goals at the highest level while his hold-up play and his combination play are second to none.

It was reported by HITC last month that Tottenham are set to battle the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle United, Manchester United and Chelsea for the 27-year-old’s signature this summer.

However, it appears like some clubs might have since dropped out of the race, with The Sun claiming last week that Arsenal are now looking at other targets, with Spurs, West Ham and Chelsea currently embroiled in a three-way race for the centre-forward.

Brentford might want an unrealistic £100m for Ivan Toney

Sheth has now suggested that Thomas Frank’s men will quote a huge price for the England international but they might have to eventually settle for £50m to £60m for their talisman.

The journalist told GiveMeSport about Toney: “Do I expect him to go for £100m? Brentford will want £100m for him, but other clubs will be very, very aware that he’s unlikely to sign a new contract. He’s entered the final 12 months and they will probably use that to bring the price down. So £100m, probably not.

“You’re probably looking at around the £50m/£60m mark potentially. Ivan Toney will probably be a good deal for all parties then in the end because Brentford will get good money that they can replace Ivan Toney with and they’ve already started doing that haven’t they?

“They’ve already looked at other players and already signed players on pre-contracts ahead of the summer, so they’re already looking at life after Ivan Toney.”

Brentford are known to drive a hard bargain as we saw them do with David Raya last summer. They might hold out until the latter stage of the transfer window and hope that a bidding war ensues for Toney, pushing his price up to around £70m.
