Journalist reveals how Tottenham’s squad now feel about Postecoglou’s tactics

The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke has said that according to his sources, the Tottenham players are still very much enjoying Ange Postecoglou’s style of football, which is why the team’s recent drop-off comes as a surprise.

Postecoglou has been handed a reality check on the difficulty of the Premier League over the last few months, with the team adapting to his system and finding ways to hurt his side.

The Australian told Football.London last week that nothing he has seen over recent weeks has convinced him that his style of play needs to be changed in order to fulfil Spurs’ grand ambitions.

However, the 58-year-old did confess that some big changes will have to be made to the squad, with the club needing to let some good players leave and sign ones who are better suited to his system.

Spurs stars are still enjoying Postecoglou’s tactics

Pitt-Brooke has now suggested that it is not a case of other teams having figured out Spurs but more a matter of the Tottenham players not being able to produce the same standard of performance that they did at the start of the campaign.

The journalist told The View From The Lane podcast: “I know people say they have been found out, but that’s not how I see it. Spurs’ level of performance has dropped quite a lot over the past month or so.

“I don’t know what has caused this drop-off. The players look less motivated, I don’t know if that’s mental fatigue, did they enjoy the start of Postecoglou and now they’re less convinced by the methods? Maybe, but from what I gather they do enjoy it, so I’m not sure if it is that.”

It is quite clearly a bit of both. While several players have undeniably had a loss in form, it is plainly visible that opposition teams are now much better equipped to deal with our press and expose the spaces we leave behind when the two full-backs invert.
