Journalist reveals interesting update on Spurs centre-back ahead of Wolves clash

PA Sport journalist George Sessions has revealed that Ashley Phillips did not feature for Tottenham’s Under-21s against Cambridge United on Tuesday as he is expected to make the trip to Molineux Stadium with the first-team squad on Monday.

Ange Postecoglou has a big selection headache ahead of the clash against Wolves, with both of his starting centre-backs unavailable for selection.

Micky van de Ven picked up a hamstring injury against Chelsea while Cristian Romero is suspended for three matches after being shown a straight red by referee Michael Oliver for catching Enzo Fernandez on the follow-through.

It remains to be seen who will partner Eric Dier against Wolves, with Ben Davies also missing the clash against Blues due to an injury.

The Welshman might be needed at left-back even if he is fit as Destiny Udogie is also suspended for the clash on Saturday after picking up two yellow cards in the London derby.

Ashley Phillips has been saved for Wolves clash

Sessions has now taken to social media to reveal that Phillips is expected to be part of the matchday squad that makes the trip up to West Midlands, which is why the 18-year-old summer signing did not travel to Abbey Stadium yesterday.

If Davies is passed fit, I expect the Welshman to partner Dier at centre-back, with Emerson Royal potentially filling in at left-back in place of Destiny Udogie. Phillips will likely be named on the bench for Saturday’s clash.
