Journalist reveals Middlesbrough boss is ‘pushing’ to sell Spence to Spurs quickly

Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge has revealed Middlesbrough manager Chris Wilder is ‘pushing’ to seal Djed Spence’s proposed move to Tottenham as quickly as possible.

Spurs have long been linked with the Spence, 21, who inspired Nottingham Forest towards Premier League promotion during his loan spell last season.

The Daily Mail claim Antonio Conte’s side remain in advanced talks to sign the English wing-back in a deal that could be worth around £15 million plus add-ons.

Bridge has now explained Spence himself is keen to make the switch to Spurs this summer, while insisting a similar view on the deal is held by those at Boro.

The journalist adds boss Wilder wants the transaction to materialise as soon as possible as he intends to put the funds in the deal towards building a Championship-winning squad.

Bridge told Tottenham Fan Chris Cowlin: “Everyone is kind of saying different things, but I will say two things.

“One, Djed Spence only wants to come to Tottenham Hotspur. Secondly, Chris Wilder and Middlesbrough want to get this deal done.

“Chris Wilder wants to win the Championship, he knows he doesn’t have Spence in his squad next season, the Championship kicks off in a month’s time, they want this money in.

“My understanding is that they are pushing this deal as much as possible.”

It is evident that both clubs are keen to get this deal done. Spurs want the player to bolster Conte’s options on the right flank, while Middlesbrough want the cash at their disposal.

The deal seems pretty close from what all the reports are saying and there is plenty of time remaining this summer to see it completed.
