Journalist reveals one Spurs star has already caught Conte’s eye in first week

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Oliver Skipp has already caught Antonio Conte’s eye in his first week in charge of Tottenham Hotspur.

Skipp has cemented his place in Tottenham’s starting eleven this season after returning from his loan spell at Norwich over the summer.

The 21-year-old is one of the few players who shone during Nuno Espirito Santo’s four-month reign at the club.

Conte has started Skipp alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in midfield in both of his matches in charge against Vitesse Arnhem and Everton.

The Spurs academy graduate was one of the team’s better performers in the 0-0 draw at Goodison Park on Sunday, showing his battling qualities and constantly putting fires out in front of the back three.

Gold has revealed that Conte has already taken a liking to Skipp since joining the club a week ago. The Italian is thought to be in agreement with the feeling inside the club that the youngster is going to become a key player for Spurs for years to come.

It is explained that the 52-year-old sees Skipp as the coach’s dream due to his great engine, excellent technique and ability to take a lot of tactical information on board.

It is certainly not surprising that Conte has taken to Skipp given that the youngster always seems to be willing to give his all and put his body on the line.

This probably is not such great news for Winks or Ndombele as it might make it difficult for them to get into the side unless Conte tweaks the formation from a 3-4-3 to a 3-5-2.
