Journalist reveals Paratici made call to Lionel Messi’s dad after he left Barcelona

Italian football journalist Tancredi Palmeri has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur managing director of football Fabio Paratici made contact with Lionel Messi’s father on Friday.

Palmeri took to Twitter to report that Paratici made the call to assess whether the Argentina international would be open to the prospect of a move to North London.

The 34-year-old admitted during an emotional press conference on Sunday that he did not want to leave the Catalan giants, and has since received plenty of calls from interested parties (Sky Sports).

Paris Saint-Germain are reported to have offered the six-time Ballon d’or winner a two-year contract which is said to be worth £25m a year after tax (Sky Sports).

Palmeri suggested that if Paratici was still in his previous role at Juventus, he would have looked to have moved heaven and earth to bring him to the Old Lady.

Whether Spurs were genuinely interested in trying to sign Messi, or were just trying to find out more about the potential finances of a deal is not known. However, it seems unlikely that he would be willing to swap playing in the Champions League for the Conference League.
