Journalist reveals player allegedly wanted by Conte ‘will not renew his contract’

Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla has claimed that rumoured Tottenham target Stefan de Vrij will not be renewing his contract with Inter Milan.

It was reported last month that Antonio Conte was keen on reuniting with De Vrij at Spurs and had personally asked the North London club’s hierarchy to swoop for the centre-back in the summer (Inter Live).

TuttoMercatoWeb subsequently reported that the Nerrazuri are ‘seriously considering’ the possibility of cashing in on the experienced defender when the transfer window reopens.

The report added that Inter could demand €25m (£20.7m) for the Netherlands international, whose contract at the San Siro runs out in 2023.

Pedulla has now revealed that Simone Inzaghi’s side are ready to sacrifice De Vrij as they wish to snap up Torino centre-back, Gleison Bremer.

Interestingly, Bremer is also thought to be on Spurs’ radar ahead of the summer transfer window, with previous reports indicating that Fabio Paratici is a fan of the Brazilian (CalcioMercato).

Pedulla said on a live Instagram session with Tuttosport’s Xavier Jacobelli (12/04/22 – as relayed by FC Inter 1908): “In January, we directed Bremer towards Inter; we knew that the Nerazzurri had discarded some options, see Ginter,

“In my opinion, Bremer is a phenomenon, even off the field, as he has shown gratitude and appreciation towards Torino, things that are rare today. He could have left for 15-18 million, but he renewed, and it was a nice gesture.

“In January, he gave his word to Inter; there is a fictitious and unpublicized clause for the transfer at 25-30 million. In my opinion, it should cost at least 40 million or more.

“I don’t know if there will be any quid pro quo, but the choice has been made, as has the transfer with de Vrij. There have been evaluations, and Inter have chosen Bremer.

“De Vrij will not renew his contract; we’ll see if he has requests from Tottenham or other teams.”

Spurs Web Opinion

De Vrij will be nothing more than a backup to Eric Dier in the central sweeper role if he comes to Spurs. Perhaps Conte wants to bring the Netherlands international in as he expects to lose Joe Rodon in the summer. However, one would expect the North Londoners to move for a defender of a younger profile.
