Journalist reveals Premier League club enquired about Tanguy Ndombele

CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that Aston Villa enquired about the availability of Tanguy Ndombele to Tottenham back in January.

Reports over recent weeks have indicated that Spurs are likely to loan out Ndombele again this summer as interested clubs have been put off by the midfielder’s salary (The Athletic).

The Frenchman was loaned back to his former club Lyon during the January transfer window but things did not go according to plan at the Groupama Stadium as he found himself out of the club’s starting eleven towards the end of the campaign.

It remains to be seen where the 25-year-old will end up this summer as the midfielder tries to get his career back on track.

Jacobs has revealed that a move to Villa Park was on the cards for Ndombele, with Steven Gerrard’s men enquiring about the midfielder in January with a view to signing him in the current window.

However, the journalist revealed that the Villans have not followed through on their interest in the Tottenham man.

Jacobs told The Last World On Spurs YouTube channel about Ndombele: “There has been no source from the Premier League who has said they are interested in the player at this stage.

“The only club who I can tell you made an enquiry in January with a view to this window was Aston Villa. But they haven’t materialised or advanced that in any way, shape or form. If he goes, and I think that’s likely, I see him leaving the Premier League.”

Tottenham would have been hoping that loaning Ndombele back to Lyon would allow the midfielder to showcase his talents, and would thus make it easier for them to cash in on him this summer.

However, following the 25-year-old’s struggles at the Ligue 1 club, it now appears as if even the few clubs who were previously interested, have decided that signing the midfielder would be too big of a risk.
