Journalist reveals Rodrigo Bentancur injury update from after Aston Villa match

The Sun reporter Tom Barclay has revealed that Rodrigo Bentancur was still hobbling in the mixed zone after the full-time whistle.

Bentancur, who had come on as a substitute during Tottenham’s last three Premier League matches, was handed his first start for the club since February, just days after he played 86 minutes for Uruguay.

For the first 25 minutes of the game, the midfielder looked like he had never been away as he dictated proceedings and was arguably the best player in the park.

However, he was on the receiving end of a nasty tackle from Matty Cash just before the half-hour mark, with Aston Villa’s right-back catching him flush on the ankle well after the ball had gone.

Bentancur was upset with the tackle and even though he tried running it off for a few minutes, he was not able to continue and had to be replaced by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Ange Postecoglou said after the game that he is waiting for confirmation of the severity of the injury but admitted that it is extremely bad news for Tottenham, given their already bloated injury list (Football.London).

Bentancur was still limping after the game

Barclay’s latest update will not fill Spurs fans with optimism, with the journalist revealing that the 26-year-old was continuing to feel the effects of the knock after the game had ended.

It appears like the injury will put Bentancur out for at least a couple of games. The Uruguayan would be crushed if he learns that it is any more serious than that, given how hard he worked to get back from his ACL injury.
