Journalist reveals Spurs bench player is a ‘good trainer’ and ‘good guy to have around’

Journalist Tom Allnutt has revealed that Fraser Forster is an excellent trainer behind the scenes at Hotspur Way, opining that he is a very useful number two to have.

The role of a backup goalkeeper is unique in football as unlike other positions, the number one role is not one that the manager tends to rotate in.

The backup goalie would thus know that he will not play unless there is an injury, with teams thus often preferring to sign good characters for that role, who would not sulk at the lack of game time and would have a positive impact on team morale.

Forster has certainly done that since arriving at the club 18 months ago, with the goalkeeper serving as an understudy to Hugo Lloris last season before becoming Guglielmo Vicario’s deputy after the Italian came through the door last summer.

Fraser Forster is a good guy to have around Tottenham

The England international is evidently quite a popular member in the changing room and Allnutt has revealed that he is also very professional in the way he trains.

The journalist told The Tottenham Way Podcast: “For me, I think Forster is a very good backup goalkeeper. He’s apparently a very good trainer, a good guy to have around, I don’t think he’s that bothered about playing in the first team, for me he’s ideal.”

Forster is evidently a valued member of the changing room and seems to have the respect of his teammates and the coaching staff. I would not be surprised if Tottenham offered the 35-year-old a contract extension.
