Journalist reveals Spurs could take advantage of rule change to navigate fixture pile-up

With the Carabao Cup schedule for next season being released, it has exacerbated what was already a major fixture pile up for Tottenham Hotspur at the start of the season.

Courtesy of Arsenal’s FA Cup success, Jose Mourinho’s men will have to navigate three Europa League qualifiers if they wish to book their place in the group stage of the competition.

With Spurs beginning their qualifying campaign on September 17, just days after they kick-off their Premier League season, the club were already facing the prospect of playing every three or four days for the first month.

Now that it has been confirmed that the third and fourth rounds of the Carabao Cup (when Spurs enter the competition) will be held on 22/23 September and 29/30 September respectively.

This means that the Lilywhites face the prospect of playing a couple of their Europa League qualifiers less than 48 hours after a League Cup clash.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has now taken to social media to reveal that Mourinho’s men may take advantage of the Premier League to EFL transfer window extension to delay loaning out some of their youngsters so that they can be involved in the third and fourth round of the League Cup.

Spurs Web Opinion

Hopefully, the Europa League qualifiers will be a breeze as the quality of some of the teams in the draw are pretty poor. However, the last thing we need is for some of our key players to pick up niggles due to the excess fatigue and travelling right at the start of the campaign. Mourinho will have to be creative with how manages his squad through September and October.
