Journalist reveals Spurs expect player to leave on permanent deal in 2023

Alasdair Gold has revealed that Rennes are ‘very excited’ at being able to snap up Joe Rodon from Tottenham at such a competitive price.

Despite coming to Spurs from Swansea City as a very highly rated young player, Rodon struggled to get a run of starts under his belt in his two years at the North London club.

The 24-year-old has continued to shine in the centre of a back three for Wales but that still did not prove enough for him to force himself into the Tottenham side.

Spurs confirmed this week that Rodon had joined Rennes on a season-long loan deal, with reports indicating the French club have an option to make the deal permanent for around £16.7m (Football.London).

Gold has now revealed that all the parties expect Rennes to activate the option to buy the centre-back and the former Swansea man is excited about his new adventure in Brittany.

The journalist said on his YouTube channel about Rodon’s move: “He’ll be a very good addition for them, they’re very excited about it and from what I understand Joe Rodon is very excited about it as well.

“It’s one where all parties expect Rennes to take that deal because it’s not that expensive and they know they will make a profit on him as well when he moves onto another club.”

This deal is also a smart one for Tottenham as it means that they would be making a profit on the £11m they paid to sign him from Swansea two years ago if Rennes do take up the option to make the deal permanent.

To potentially make a significant profit on a player who has hardly played for the last two seasons at club level, is very good business.
