Journalist reveals Spurs had £40m bid rejected yesterday – Deal now close

The Athletic’s David Ornstein has revealed that Tottenham had a £40m bid rejected yesterday for Richarlison, only to return with an improved offer.

The journalist claimed Spurs will pay £50m for the Brazilian, with another potential £10m coming in add-ons. He also added that an unnamed club showed late interest in Richarlison, but Tottenham look set to complete the deal in the coming days.

UOL Esporte journalist Burno Andrade also reported yesterday that Tottenham were expected to agree on a fee of around £60m to sign Richarlison.

Tottenham seemingly stepped up their pursuit of Richarlison over the last few days, with Everton reportedly having to raise funds before the end of the accounting year in order to avoid being sanctioned (Mirror).

90 min revealed on Wednesday that Tottenham hoped to complete a deal for the 25-year-old before the start of pre-season training.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold subsequently claimed yesterday that Spurs were hopeful of agreeing on a fee with Everton for the forward within the next 24 hours.

It was clear from the offset that Richarlison was Tottenham’s first-choice striker target this summer. Spurs might have initially been hoping that Everton will reduce their asking price towards the end of the financial year owing to their issues with FFP but it looks like we are going to pay a premium for the Brazilian.
