Journalist reveals Spurs have been scouting Premier League midfielder

Tottenham Hotspur have been closely monitoring Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Cantwell has just under 12 months left on his current contract with the Premier League newcomers, although Norwich do have the option to extend by a further year should they choose to.

Jones revealed that the middle of midfield is an area which Spurs are looking to bolster this summer having kept tabs on Cantwell, along with Marcel Sabitzer and Miralem Pjanić.

The boyhood Arsenal fan put his hand to his lips to silence the Tottenham Hotspur fans when he scored from the penalty spot in a FA Cup shootout win for the Canaries in North London in March of last year (The Sun).

“I think midfield is an area they have been looking at anyway,” Jones told the Football Terrace.

“Even before all the changes came along.

“They have been scouting Sabitzer, Todd Cantwell and Miralem Pjanić has been linked with them.

“So, that’s an area they are going to look at with Tottenham, of course, they have been linked with defenders at the moment as well – Stuff will start to happen.”

Whether Norwich would be open to allowing Cantwell to leave after already having sold Emi Buendia to Aston Villa earlier in the window remains to be seen.

While he does have the attraction of being a ‘homegrown’ player, he is not a significant upgrade on Tottenham’s current midfield options.
