Journalist reveals Spurs have strongly denied reports regarding Barcelona player deal

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham have denied reports that they attempted to reduce an already-agreed fee for Philippe Coutinho last summer.

Spurs are reportedly one of the clubs to have enquired about the Barca man, who is said to be desperate to return to the Premier League after Bayern Munich indicated that they will not be making the loan deal for the midfielder permanent (the Mirror).

Sport (via Sport Witness) claimed recently that the Brazilian now sees Tottenham as a last resort after a late U-turn by Daniel Levy last summer left him outraged.

It was asserted that the Brazilian had an agreement in place to join Tottenham before he eventually joined Bayern on loan. However, the Spurs chairman is said to have reduced the finances of the offer at the last minute, thus causing the deal to collapse.

Gold took to social media to report the denial of such stories from Tottenham:

Spurs Web Opinion

I tend to believe what Alasdair Gold is saying here as I was never really convinced we were serious about signing Coutinho last summer. I believe Giovani Lo Celso was the player we wanted and our enquiry for Bruno Fernandes and Coutinho was probably just to put pressure on Real Betis to sell for a lower fee.
