Journalist Alex Crook has revealed on social media that rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Danny Ings is expecting a release clause to be inserted before putting pen to paper on a new contract with Southampton.
It was reported in the summer that Tottenham did make a move for Ings but Southampton rejected their approach outright.
The England international has continued to shine for the Saints this campaign, having netted seven times in 13 league appearances so far (transfermarkt.com).
Eurosport reported earlier this week that the North Londoners were ready to explore the possibility of signing Ings at the end of the season, with the striker continuing to stall on a new deal.
The 28-year-old’s current deal runs out in the summer of 2022 and Crook has now revealed why he is hesitant to agree on a new contract.
The journalist revealed the while the former Liverpool man has reached an agreement on over his salary, the two parties are still apart on the value of his release clause.
I don't believe Ings is agitating to leave #SaintsFC but the release clause is important to him in case one of the elite clubs in England come on for him. https://t.co/2nRk0FYUbw

Crooks also claimed that Tottenham still hold an interest in Ings.
#THFC interest in Ings from the summer has not gone away but would he really want to be back up to Harry Kane? #SaintsFC https://t.co/qAzL16PV5g

Spurs Web Opinion
If Ings did come to Tottenham, he will certainly be more than just an understudy to Kane. The England captain has shown this season that he can thrive in a deeper role and I believe Jose will try to convince the Saints striker that he can play together with Kane.
