Journalist reveals Spurs recorded four season-best stats against Brentford

The stats show that Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Brentford was by far their most dominating display of the season so far.

Spurs needed a response against the Bees on Thursday after their embarrassing 2-1 defeat to NS Mura in the Europa Conference League last week.

With the clash against Burnley on Sunday being postponed due to bad snowfall, the Lilywhites needed all three points on Thursday, particularly given that other results had gone their way.

Antonio Conte’s men put in a professional display and eased past Brentford to move to within two points of the fourth spot with a game in hand.

Not only was this the biggest margin of victory for Tottenham in the Premier League this season, with all their other ones being just by a one-goal margin, but the North Londoners also posted dominant numbers in terms of xG and chances created.

The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare revealed on social media that Spurs created 4 big chances in the match while also posting their highest xG of the season with 2.16.

He revealed that the home side also recorded their lowest ‘xG against’ on Thursday, with Thomas Frank’s side recording an xG of only 0.41.

Even without these numbers, it was evident just from the eye test that this was our best performance in the Premier League this season. We looked comfortable for the entire 90 minutes and it seemed like the only way Brentford were going to score was through a set-piece or a long throw.
