Journalist reveals Spurs star now heading back to UK from South America

The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare has revealed that Davinson Sanchez is now heading back to London after playing 90 minutes in Colombia’s 1-1 draw against Paraguay yesterday.

Despite, the South American players being prohibited by the Premier League from travelling to red-list countries, Sanchez along with Argentine duo, Giovani Lo Celso and Cristian Romero, travelled to South America to take part in the World Cup qualifiers.

Lo Celso’s and Romero’s situation took a strange turn yesterday when health authorities stopped Brazil’s match against Argentina in Sau Paulo, accusing the Tottenham pair, as well as Aston Villa’s Emiliano Buendia and Emiliano Martinez, of not disclosing they had been in the UK over the last 14 days.

Alasdair Gold revealed this morning that Spurs are set to fine the Argentine pair, as well as Sanchez, on their return to the UK.

Eccleshare has now confirmed that Sanchez will now return to the UK as the 25-year-old is suspended for Colombia’s clash against Chile on Thursday.

However, the journalist revealed that it is still not clear as to whether Lo Celso and Romero will play a part in Argentina’s clash against Bolivia this week.

It is unfortunate for Spurs that Sanchez will miss the Crystal Palace game (and potentially even the Chelsea game) due to the quarantine requirements. The Colombian has had a great start to the season and it is a shame that his partnership with Dier has to be broken up.
