Journalist reveals Spurs update as Bastoni is reluctant to leave Inter Milan

The Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick has revealed that Tottenham target Alessandro Bastoni is reluctant to leave Inter Milan this summer.

According to Football.London’s Alasdair Gold, Bastoni is Tottenham’s top target for the left centre-back role this summer, with both Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici being fans of the Italian.

The journalist claimed that Conte believes the 23-year-old would complement Cristian Romero’s aggressiveness and physicality by adding more composure and technical quality to the Spurs back three.

Gold added, however, that the North London club may face some difficulty in snapping up the Italy international, with Inter demanding £51m for the defender despite the player having just two years left on his contract.

Kilpatrick has now taken to social media to reveal it is not just Inter’s asking price that could be an issue for Spurs.

The journalist revealed that Bastoni is reluctant to swap the San Siro for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.

Kilpatrick added that while the deal is not dead in the water as of yet, Conte’s men will have to convince the centre-back to make a move to N17.

One can understand why Bastoni might be reluctant to leave Inter, given that he is only 23 years of age and has only established himself as a regular in the side over the last two years.

However, it was under Conte that the centre-back hit new heights and one would hope that the Spurs head coach would be able to convince the defender that a move to North London would be the right step for his career.
