Journalist reports Liverpool are monitoring rumoured Spurs target ‘very closely’

Journalist Dean Jones has revealed that PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar, is also being monitored by Liverpool ahead of the January transfer window.

Gapko has undoubtedly been the best player in Dutch football in the first part of the season, with the forward already having a whopping 30 goal contributions to his name so far this campaign (Transfermarkt).

Antonio Conte is reportedly keen on adding another attacker to the Tottenham squad during the January transfer window (90 min), with the PSV star alleged to be one of the players on the north London club’s wishlist (Gianluca Di Marzio – Wettfreunde).

Earlier this week, GiveMeSport backed up Spurs’ interest in Gapko, claiming that the Lilywhites view the 23-year-old as a potential ‘game-changing signing. The report stated that a ‘well-informed source’ had shared that Conte’s men are contemplating an offer for the PSV star when the transfer window opens.

Jones has now revealed that Jurgen Klopp’s men are also eyeing a move for the Dutch international.

When asked about Liverpool’s interest in Gapko, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “They have watched him and they have monitored him very closely, as closely as most other teams have so far.

“They just haven’t been linked with him as frequently. Now, I think it depends really on how their squad shapes up for the return to action as to whether they will be likely to go for him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If Gapko takes his impressive form into the World Cup and delivers in Qatar, which I expect him to, even more clubs will queue up for his signature in January.

There could be a major bidding war for the 23-year-old and I would be surprised if Spurs got involved in it as I do not think the deal would represent value for money if the forward costs upwards of £50m.
