Recent reports from Miguel Delaney suggest that Tottenham Hotspur are far from concluding any transfer business as the January window nears its end.

Tottenham’s mounting injury crisis
The 2024/25 season has been a turbulent one for Tottenham Hotspur, with Ange Postecoglou facing an unprecedented series of setbacks in his second season as manager.
Guglielmo Vicario, Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, and Ben Davies are among the defenders who have faced spells on the sidelines, leaving Tottenham’s backline stretched thin.
The issues, however, do not stop there. Midfielders such as Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma have also been unavailable, while forwards like Timo Werner, Brennan Johnson and Dominic Solanke have compounded the woes by joining the injury list.
In a recent press conference, Ange Postecoglou expressed the need for more reinforcements during this challenging period, stating, “There’s still no doubt we need to help these players as we’ve still got some significant games before we get these [injured] players back.”
While the club did secure the signing of young goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague, this has done little to address the immediate gaps in Tottenham’s first-team squad.

Journalist sheds light on Spurs’ transfer inactivity
The Independent’s chief football writer, Miguel Delaney, has added clarity to the situation in his latest Reading the Game newsletter, revealing that Tottenham Hotspur are not close to completing any transfer deals at present.
Delaney wrote as relayed by The Independent, “There is also a lot of noise around Tottenham Hotspur, but none of it really relating to purchases.
“Market figures insist the club are not really close to any deals right now. Involved sources find that remarkable given the fitness situation but, like Arsenal, their hand may be forced by injuries like that to Dominic Solanke.”

A concerning lack of urgency
Miguel Delaney’s comments do not come as a shock, as Ange Postecoglou recently revealed that the club are not close to making any signings.
He said: “Yeah, potentially. The club is working hard to get some help for the players. As far as I am aware there is nothing imminent but in the last week of the window things happen quickly.”
However, despite his comments, Spurs are continually being linked with more players especially forwards and more recently they have been linked with Brian Brobbey of Ajax.
