Journalist reveals that Tottenham scouts were in France on Saturday

Journalist Santi Aouna has revealed that scouts from Tottenham Hotspur attended Lyon’s clash at Strasbourg on Saturday.

Lyon came from a goal down to emerge with a 2-1 win from La Meinau, owing to first-half strikes from Castello Lukeba and Maxence Caqueret.

It turns out that scots from Spurs were at the stadium, with Aouna revealing that they were also joined by representatives from the likes of Juventus, Manchester City, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.

The journalist did not state which player the aforementioned clubs were running the rule over but the Lilywhites have been credited with an interest in Lyon right-back Malo Gusto over recent months.

Alasdair Gold revealed back in December of last year that the 19-year-old was on the North London club’s radar (Football.London) and this was subsequently confirmed by Foot Mercato in January, with the publication claiming that Tottenham could face competition for Newcastle United for the youngster.

Gusto has featured 19 times across all competitions for Lyon this season, having operated as a right-back, a right wing-back and even occasionally as a right-sided centre-back (Transfermarkt).

Scouting missions like these are quite common and do not necessarily mean that clubs hold a serious interest in a certain player.

However, with Paratici (and his network of scouts) no longer in charge at Tottenham, it does make you wonder about the club’s decision to send representatives to France.
