The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke has shed light on how Guglielmo Vicario has settled in at Tottenham Hotspur, revealing that the Italian is quite popular among the staff at the club and his teammates.
It was only natural that some Spurs fans were sceptical of the club’s signing of Vicario in the summer.
Although he arrived at the North London club on the back of two outstanding seasons at Empoli, we have seen top goalkeepers from Italy and Spain struggle to adapt to the Premier League, with Man Utd’s Andre Onana, who also arrived in the summer, being a prime example.
However, Vicario has not put a foot wrong at Spurs and has not only showcased his excellent shot-stopping ability but also impressed with his decision-making, which is a crucial factor for Ange Postecoglou’s side, given the way they play out from the back.

Pitt-Brooke has now revealed that Vicario has also made a great impression off the pitch, with the Italian being a very popular figure at Hotspur Way.
The journalist told the Last Word on Spurs podcast about the goalkeeper: “He’s the complete package. He’s a really smart and interesting guy and I know the staff at Tottenham love him, he speaks perfect English.
“He’s incredibly good with the kids, not just the lads in the Tottenham academy but also the community projects and so on. He’s a brilliant character and the kind of character you need in the dressing room.”

In Vicario, we not only have an outstanding goalkeeper but a fantastic human being. He is also a naturally vocal character, who has leadership qualities, which is why I would not be surprised if he eventually becomes captain a few years.
