Tottenham are ‘in talks’ with Eric Dier over a new contract under Jose Mourinho, according to journalist Nicolò Schira.
However, Schira claims that Dier and his entourage are hoping for a drastically increased weekly wage in order to get him to extend his Spurs future.
Dier has recently admitted that he sees his future in football as a defender, not in the centre of midfield (Daily Star).
“As I’ve said, centre-back is a position where I see my future, where I think I can be the best I can be, but every opportunity I get to play I’m really happy with and I always try to show my qualities,” said the 26-year-old.
Mourinho has been a long-term admirer of Dier and tried to sign him during his reign at Manchester United.
Schira revealed that Dier is hoping to increase his wage to €5M per year which would see his weekly wage increase from £60k to around £85k (Spotrac).

I think Dier showed his qualities in defence before the lockdown. With Jan Vertonghen heading for the exit door this summer, it would be risky to allow Dier to go without a contract extension. However, whether he can live up to £85k per week is another question altogether.
