Journalist reveals three positions which are ‘priorities’ for Spurs this summer

While speaking about Tottenham’s summer transfer business, The Sun journalist Tom Barclay has revealed that the two wing-back areas and left-sided centre-back are the priorities for the Lilywhites to address at the end of the campaign.

According to previous reports, Antonio Conte wants to bring in as many as six new signings to Spurs this summer, including two central midfielders (Telegraph).

A number of Premier League midfielders, including the likes of Ruben Neves (90 min), Youri Tielemans (GiveMeSport), Tomas Soucek (Express) and James Ward-Prowse (Daily Star) have been mooted as potential targets for the north Londoners.

Meanwhile, The Athletic reported last month that signing a left-sided centre-back to compete with Ben Davies is Tottenham’s number one priority in the summer.

If The Daily Mail are to be believed, Villarreal’s Pau Torres has emerged as Tottenham’s top target for the left centre-back role.

Barclay has now stated that Ward-Prowse and Tielemans are indeed on Spurs’ radar ahead of the summer but he added that Conte’s men will be prioritising additions in other areas of the pitch.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “In midfield, they are interested in Youri Tielemans, whether they can get him or not is another thing. But I think a left-sided centre-back for Spurs, in particular, maybe wing-backs on both sides, potentially, are probably bigger priorities.

“So, when you’re talking about probably £50 million-plus for Ward-Prowse, that’s a big fee for Tottenham and the way they do things. So, I’d be kind of surprised if they managed to do that, but that doesn’t mean they’re not interested.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no question that additions in the wing-back areas and left centre-back should be prioritised over central midfielders this summer.

Hojbjerg and Bentancur have done exceedingly well over the past few months while Skipp was arguably our best player in the first half of the season.

So, I expect the club to potentially look for a relatively low-cost replacement for Harry Winks and a number eight to give Conte some tactical flexibility.

On the other hand, we need to players who would be regular starters in the wing-back areas and centre-back.
