Journalist reveals update on Tottenham’s reported chase for PSG’s Thomas Meunier

The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare has provided an update on Tottenham’s reported pursuit of PSG defender, Thomas Meunier.

Spurs have been linked with several right-backs this summer, including the likes of Max Aarons (Football Insider) and Nelson Semedo (Don Balon). However, the rumours linking Spurs with a move for the Meunier have intensified over the past few days.

Reports in Spain last week (Sport via Sport Witness) claimed that it was only matter of time before the Belgian international completed a move to North London as he had an agreement in place to join Spurs when his contract at PSG runs out this summer.

A report by ESPN even asserted that Jose Mourinho had personally called the 28-year-old in order to convince him to come to Spurs, with the defender being left flattered by the call.

However, Eccleshare has now contradicted those earlier claims by suggesting that the Lilywhites are unlikely to move for the PSG star this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Like many Spurs fans, I would prefer us to sign Aarons as I believe he will be an excellent fit and has the potential to grow into a top right-back over the next few years. However, I would not be disheartened if we were to sign Meunier as I feel the Belgian can be a solid squad option for us. The club view may the chance to sign him on a free-transfer as too good an opportunity to turn down.
