Journalist reveals what Anthony Gordon’s advisors have told Spurs and Chelsea

Journalist Paul Brown has hinted that Tottenham Hotspur could reignite their interest in Everton winger Anthony Gordon during the January transfer window.

Towards the end of the summer transfer window, reports suggested that Chelsea were the favourites to snap up Gordon, with The Times claiming the Blues were ‘confident’ of winning the race for the £50m-rated winger despite having two offers rejected by Everton.

It was revealed that Chelsea were facing competition from their London rivals Spurs, with Football Insider suggesting last month that Antonio Conte’s men were readying a formal offer of their own for the 21-year-old.

The report added that Tottenham held preliminary talks with Gordon’s camp and had received encouragement that the player was keen on moving to N17.

However, neither Chelsea nor Spurs were successful in their pursuit of the winger, who ended up staying at Goodison Park.

Brown has now said that Gordon has no intention of signing a new contract with the Toffees, which might encourage the two London clubs to try again to sign him in January.

When asked about the England Under-21 star’s contract situation, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “I think it’s up to Everton to change his mind.

“Otherwise, they’re going to be in the same situation they were with him come January. It may be that the interest from those two clubs has waned a bit by then. We’ll see.

“But, if he has a brilliant few months, you can guarantee that Spurs, Chelsea and possibly other teams will be sniffing around because they know from his advisors that Gordon is not about to sign a new long-term deal tomorrow with Everton.”

Even if Gordon does not sign a new contract before January, Everton are under no real pressure to sell the winger, whose current deal at Goodison Park runs until 2025 (Transfermarkt). I would be surprised if Frank Lampard’s men let the winger leave the club mid-season.
