Journalist reveals what Conte thinks of Spurs midfielder after Liverpool draw

Football.London correspondent Alasdair Gold has hinted that Antonio Conte was impressed with Harry Winks during Tottenham’s draw with Liverpool and the performance provided him with proof to believe he can continue improving the midfielder.

The 25-year-old was one of a host of players handed the opportunity to impress against the Reds in what was only his third Premier League start of the season.

Conte was duly rewarded for his faith with Winks producing a confident and assured display in central midfield which pushed Spurs to secure an all-action 2-2 draw.

The performance may now give the club possible second thoughts about considering a transfer, after reports claimed Winks had been tipped for a move to Newcastle in January.

However, Gold has since shared that Conte was pleased with Winks’ showing against Liverpool and it provided him with enough evidence to take speculation of a winter exit off the table.

He told his YouTube channel: “I’m hearing that this performance was the proof that Conte [needed]. He felt that there’s something about Winks that he can get more out of him. And I think this performance essentially rubber-stamped that for him.”

Winks was one of the best performers against Liverpool and he was more like his old self as he was in the early days of Mauricio Pochettino. Obviously he will need to show this on a more consistent basis, but he could be a good squad player if he maintains this.
