Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Lautaro Martinez could end up at Tottenham this summer, but insisted Arsenal’s hopes of signing the Inter Milan star are over.

It was previously reported that Inter Milan would have to cash in on one of either Matinez or Alessandro Bastoni during this summer’s transfer window, due to their financial issues (The Athletic).

Bastoni’s agent has stated that his client will be staying put at Inter (Football Italian) but Tottenham have allegedly not given up hope of signing the centre-back (CalcioMercatoWeb.it).

Earlier this month, it was reported that Martinez was also on Spurs’ radar, with the North London club said to be on the lookout for a versatile forward (GiveMeSport).

Alfredo Pedulla claimed a few days ago that although Antonio Conte wants to reunite with the Argentine, Inter would look to resist the Lilywhites’ advances for the forward.

Jones believes an albeit unlikely move to Tottenham is still on the cards for Martinez this summer but the journalist explained that Arsenal are out of the running for the forward’s signature after failing to qualify for the Champions League.

He told Football Terrace: “At this stage, it’s not likely (that Martinez leaves Inter for England), but I was told that it’s still possible. If it’s going to happen, it won’t be to Arsenal, it could be to Tottenham.

“That was the information I was given over the weekend. Arsenal missed out on the CL and that’s that. The fact that Tottenham have qualified gives them a better chance if they want to go for him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I would not be surprised if Spurs go back in for Martinez later in the widow. If it is true that Everton want around £60m for Richarlison (CaughtOffside), the North London club might decide that a move for the Inter Milan star would represent better value for money.
