Journalist Paul Brown has said that he is sceptical about the speculation linking Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo with Tottenham, revealing that the centre-back’s agent is trying to drum up interest in his client.
Reports lining Todibo with a move to Spurs first appeared on November 29, with The Evening Standard reporting at the time that the Lilywhites were ‘ready to rival’ anyone for the player, who was alleged to be valued by Nice at £39m.
The 23-year-old is also said to be of interest to Man Utd (Florian Plettenberg) and a couple of days ago, Sky Sports asserted that while the Frenchman was near the top of Spurs’ wishlist, Nice are not keen on letting him leave mid-season as they are aiming for unlikely title-tilt this season.
Jean-Clair Todibo links are merely agent talk
Brown has now opined that Todibo is not of the required standard to improve the Tottenham or the Man Utd first-team.
He revealed that he is sceptical of the recent transfer reports since he has heard that the centre-back has been offered to a lot of clubs around the continent.
The journalist told GiveMeSport: “I think Todibo is someone who has been offered to almost every club in Europe, so I’m a little bit sceptical when I hear that some of the bigger clubs might be interested.
“I think there is a lot of agent talk here, trying to push the guy to a new place. He is probably not somebody who is going to make a big impact at a club like Spurs or Manchester United, so I would be surprised if either of those two made a big move to sign him.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Given the number of different centre-backs who have been mooted as targets for Tottenham over the last two months, it is anyone’s guess at the moment just who the North London club’s first two or three options are.
The one thing I am certain about is that the club will not spend £50m plus to sign someone like Marc Guehi or Gleison Bremer as Romero and Van de Ven are going continue to be Postecoglou’s first choice pairing.
