Journalist reveals what Pochettino told PSG transfer target about his future

In what could be the clearest indication yet that Mauricio Pochettino expects to remain at Paris Saint-Germain,  Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the former Spurs boss personally called Georginio Wijnaldum to convince the midfielder to join him in the French capital.

After Tottenham pulled back from talks with Antonio Conte, it was reported that the club could potentially reignite their interest in Mauricio Pochettino.

However, Football.London’s Alasdair Gold squashed any lingering hopes that Spurs fans had of a Pochettino return by explaining that Fabio Paratici’s impending arrival made the Argentine’s return even more unlikely as he doesn’t like working with a Director of Football.

Romano has now explained in an interview with Chris Cowlin’s YouTube Channel (starting at 7:45) that PSG continue to insist both privately and publicly that they fully expect Pochettino to stay.

He also revealed that the 49-year-old called Wijnaldum several times to convince him to join him in Paris, explaining to the Dutch midfielder that he wanted to bring him to Spurs five years ago.

Romano pointed out that Pochettino would be unlikely to persuade the Liverpool star in such a manner if he did not expect to be at the Parc des Princes next season.
