Argentinean journalist Cesar Luis Merlo has revealed that Giovani Lo Celso’s loan move to Villarreal is expected to be officially confirmed within the next few days.
After weeks of heavy speculation, it finally looks like Lo Celso is now set to complete a return to Villarreal, where he spent the second half of last season on loan.
Football.London reported on Friday that the midfielder is on his way to Spain to re-sign with Unai Emery’s side.
The report revealed that the Argentine’s loan switch contains a break clause that would allow Spurs to end the loan in January if they receive a bid from someone in that window and the player agrees to the move.
This revelation about the break clause in the loan deal has now also been confirmed by Merlo. The journalist further revealed that the La Liga side has reached a ‘verbal agreement’ with Spurs regarding a loan deal for Lo Celso.
He added that the two clubs are now exchanging and sorting out the documentation and the transfer will be completed over the coming days.

The break clause makes sense from a Spurs perspective but the only issue is that Lo Celso would have to give the green light for him to be recalled in January, which he is unlikely to do even in the case of an offer. Hopefully, the 26-year-old does well back at El Madrigal and Villarreal decide to exercise the purchase option next summer.
