Journalist reveals whether Danny Ings is keen on Tottenham move

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Danny Ings is not keen on a move to Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the season.

Ings is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract with Southampton and, with the striker yet to agree on a new deal with the club, reports indicate that Tottenham have explored the possibility of snapping him up in the summer.

Jose Mourinho is said to be a big fan of the England striker but the Tottenham boss chose to keep his cards close to his chest when asked about the North Londoners’ interest in the former Liverpool man.

Ings has also been linked with a move to Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola said to view the striker as Sergio Aguero’s potential replacement.

Gold has now indicated that there is very little chance of Spurs snapping up Ings as the 28-year-old is not keen on being an understudy to Harry Kane.

When asked about Tottenham’s chances of singing Ings, the journalist said in a Q & A: “No desire to be a back-up to Harry Kane unfortunately.

“I can understand why. It’s a tough gig and if you’re playing regularly it’s not something you give up.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Kane has demonstrated this season that he can thrive as a number ten and so he could quite easily play alongside Ings. However, the Southampton star will likely want to be the main man up front if he is to move considering this is likely to be the last major transfer of his career.

I can see him going to Leicester as a replacement for Vardy or potentially even Manchester United. While he will also be a good fit for City, I expect Guardiola’s men to go for someone like Haaland or Lukaku in the summer. The only way I can see Ings coming to Spurs is if Kane leaves.
