Journalist reveals whether Spurs expect Dele Alli to leave this transfer window

PA Sport journalist, Jonathan Veal has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur do not expect Dele Alli to leave before the transfer window shuts, despite the speculation surrounding the midfielder’s future.

Alli was left out of Tottenham matchday squad for the second game running as Spurs travelled to St Mary’s on Sunday.

Soon after the midfielder was left out of the 18-man squad by Jose Mourinho, reports emerged that Alli had been offered by Tottenham to several clubs around Europe (Fabrizio Romano).

When he was asked about the speculation surrounding Alli’s future after his side’s 5-2 thrashing of Southampton, Mourinho refused to rule out the possibility of the midfielder leaving the club, insisting simply that he wants a more balanced squad (Football.London).

However, Veal took to social media to insist that the Lilywhites do not expect the England international to leave the club this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Reading between the lines of Mourinho’s answer regarding Dele in the post-match press conference after the win over Southampton, I believe that the Spurs boss is ready to sacrifice Alli. Perhaps he has decided that the 24-year-old does not suit his counter-attacking style due to his tendency to slow down attacks. The fact that we are being linked with Jesse Lingard certainly suggests that the Spurs boss is looking for players who are better playing on the transition.
