Journalist reveals whether Tottenham are still looking at Antonio Nusa

Norwegian football journalist Stian Andre de Wahl has revealed that Tottenham are continuing to track Antonio Nusa after their failure to get a deal for the winger over the line in January.

By many accounts, Spurs came close to signing Nusa last month, with the Lilywhites even thought to have agreed a €30m (£25.7m) deal with Club Brugge for the 18-year-old at one point (The Athletic).

However, the Norway international chose to join Brentford instead in search of regular game time, only to fail a medical at the Gtech Community Stadium in the final few days of the window (Ben Jacobs).

Over the last few weeks, multiple sources have backed Spurs to reignite their interest in the teenager in the summer (Het Nieuwsblad) while it has also been asserted that Brentford are no longer in the running for the player’s signature (Fabrizio Romano).

Tottenham are still interested in Antonio Nusa

Andre de Wahl has now also backed up the assertion that a move to Thomas Frank’s side does not look to be on the cards for Nusa.

When asked if that transfer has completely collapsed, he told Football.London: “It’s already been reported elsewhere that the deal with Brentford is off and from what we heard, he and his advisors have taken a step back to consider the options for the summer window.

“If Brentford want to pursue a deal they may kind of start over again with negotiations. A lot of clubs in all the top five leagues are still interested in Nusa.”

When asked about the winger failing a medical at the West London club and whether he has any injury issues, the Norwegian journalist said: “From what we know Nusa is fully fit and there is no issue as of now. He is also back in Brugge and starting games on a regular basis and performing well.”

Andre de Wahl was then asked if a switch to Spurs is still on the cards for the Club Brugge star and he responded: “Tottenham is definitely one of the clubs showing interest. It’s difficult to say right now if they will try seriously to get him, but as we can see with Tottenham’s strategy to invest in big young talents it wouldn’t be a surprise if they try.”

Spurs Web Opinion

We know that Ange is very particular about only wanting players who are quite keen on joining Tottenham. The fact that Nusa turned down a move to Spurs in January in favour of a move to Brentford might thus count against him, potentially causing the Australian to look elsewhere.
