Journalist reveals why Jack Clarke’s return to Leeds was the correct move

Tottenham Hotspur announced earlier today the signing of Jack Clarke from Leeds United in a deal worth around £10m. (Tottenham Hotspur)

However, Spurs fans will not get to see the 18-year-old play until 2020 after the youngster was sent back to Leeds on a season-long loan. (Leeds United)

The signing has come to the relief of the Spurs fans who have not seen a signing for 517 when Lucas Moura joined from PSG. (Sky Sports)

But one Leeds-based journalist does not believe the teen is ready for a move to Spurs just yet.

Beren Cross from Leeds Live told Football.London that Clarke’s form at the end of the season does not indicate that he is even ready for the Championship.

“Jack Clarke failed to finish last season with Leeds United in any kind of form which suggested he was ready for the Championship, let alone the Premier League,” he said,

“At 18, he is a work in progress, a player who needs to be playing and continuing the path he was on last season, with the Whites funnily enough, but that pathway has been dug up.

“The best thing Tottenham Hotspur could do is pave over that bump in the road and get him back on the straight and narrow at Elland Road,” Cross added.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Clarke is evidently a young prospect and it seems Spurs have made the correct move in sending the winger back to Elland Road. Would he get much game time at Spurs this season? Probably not, so game time under Marcelo Bielsa can only help the youngster’s chances next season at Spurs.
