Journalist reveals why Sergio Reguilon was not in starting XI against Chelsea

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold revealed that Sergio Reguilon was unavailable to start during Tottenham’s trip to Stamford Bridge due to an injury.

As expected Antonio Conte named a fairly strong starting eleven for the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday night.

However, the starting eleven did have some notable absentees, namely Eric Dier and Sergio Reguilon. The Spaniard, who has been Conte’s first choice at left-wing-back since the Italian’s arrival at the club, was only named on the bench for Wednesday’s clash.

Gold has now revealed that the 24-year-old was unavailable from the start as he was carrying a ‘minor injury’ in the week.

It remains to be seen if the former Real Madrid man will be back in the starting XI for Tottenham’s FA Cup clash against Morecambe on Sunday or if Ryan Sessegnon or Matt Doherty get another opportunity.

Reguilon’s inclusion will likely have not changed what transpired yesterday as Chelsea simply outclassed us. It is good to hear Gold describe the injury as ‘minor’ as that suggests that the Spaniard will be back in action soon.
