Journalist reveals what kind of potential signing Spurs will look at after Udogie

The busy summer of transfers at Tottenham Hotspur isn’t over yet according to journalist Alasdair Gold, who claims the club are still looking to bring in another central defender before the window shuts.

Spurs have already signed six players this summer, with Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Clement Lenglet, and Djed Spence adding depth and quality to Antonio Conte’s squad.

The North London club are also close to signing Udinese left wing-back Destiny Udogie according to Fabrizio Romano. The young Italian would remain in Serie A on loan for the current season.

It appears the focus is now on offloading the players Antonio Conte deems surplus to requirements at Spurs. Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso, Harry Winks, and Sergio Reguilon are even training alone while Spurs find new clubs for them (GiveMeSport).

Fortunately, Lo Celso is close to a straight loan back to Villarreal for the season, with a break clause, while Ndombele is close to a loan to Napoli with an option to buy (Fabrizio Romano and Gianluca Di Marzio).

However, we shouldn’t rule out more incomings at Spurs just yet, as Alasdair Gold revealed in a Q+A for Football.London that the club are still on the hunt for another centre-back to add to the squad.

He said: “Once Destiny Udogie arrives and departs back on loan, Spurs will keep looking for centre-back opportunities, especially if Japhet Tanganga joins Joe Rodon in leaving the club.

“Mainly at the moment though it’s all about getting that unwanted quartet of Ndombele, Lo Celso, Winks, and Reguilon out of the club.

“Yet with a lack of serious moves for them, they could all end up being late departures as the first two were back in January with their loan moves.”

“That does not help Spurs as they’re also keeping their eye out for late opportunities that arise in attacking midfield and forward positions now they’ve done the bulk of their priority position shopping.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Despite adding Clement Lenglet to the central defensive options, it’s widely considered that Spurs need another top-quality centre-back if they are to truly push on this season and challenge at the very top.

We know the likes of Bastoni and Gvardiol are unlikely to be an option this summer, but there are plenty of great ball-playing defenders out there to choose from and we’re sure Paratici is cooking something up before the window shuts.
